ગુજરાતી ફિલ્મ સંગીતમાં જે હવે ખૂટે છે તે તેનું ‘ગુજરાતીપણું’. કારણ કે
બંગાળી ગીત આપણને બંગાળની ભાષા ન ખબર હોય તો પણ સાંભળીને ખબર પડે કે આ બંગાળનું છે
અથવા બીજું કોઈ ગીત મહારાષ્ટ્રનું કે પંજાબનું છે. ગુજરાતી સંગીત કયુ? અવિનાશ
વ્યાસે આ વિષે ખૂબ વિસ્તારથી ચર્ચા કરી હતી. આપણે ‘આપણાપણું’ જે છે, તે જાળવી
શક્યા છીએ કે નહિ? ના જાળવી શકવાનું કારણ આપણે નકલ કરીને મેળવી લેવાની વૃત્તિવાળા
માણસ...

અજીત મર્ચન્ટ
અજીત મર્ચન્ટની વિશેષતા એ હતી કે તેઓ શાસ્ત્રીય સંગીત અને
પાશ્ચાત્ય શાસ્ત્રીય સંગીતના ખાસા જાણકાર હતા. તેમનું ખૂબ જ જાણીતું ગીત, જેને દિલીપ
ધોળકિયાએ ગાયું હતું. ‘તારી આંખનો અફીણી.....’ ગીત લોકજીભે ચડી ગયું હતું. (આ ગીત
મૂળ વેણીભાઈ પુરોહિતનું છે.) સુગમ સંગીતના કાર્યક્રમમાં આ ગીત ખૂબ જ ગવાયું. આ
ગીતની શરૂઆતમાં પાશ્ચાત્ય સંગીતની ધૂન છે. જેમાં ‘પિયાનો’ નો ઉપયોગ થયો છે....
